Global Logistics Company Significantly Expands US Network Through Mergers and Acquisitions to Better Serve the Beer, Wine and Spirits Industries

HOUSTON, TX- Hillebrand, the leading global service provider in the forwarding, transport and logistics of beverages and other products that require special care, has acquired Royal Logistics and Royal Service Transport (Royal), a warehouse and transportation beverage provider based in Baltimore, MD.

The acquisition of Royal is a significant part of Hillebrand’s business expansion plan, which commits to grow both organically and through acquisitions, while continuing to improve customer service. This move facilitates that goal, with storage, cross-docking, distribution, drayage and other value-added services now more accessible in the mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions.

“This acquisition demonstrates Hillebrand’s commitment to invest in the North American network and to reinforce our services for the beer sector,” said Scott Moorad, COO Hillebrand North America. “Royal shares a similar culture and core values with Hillebrand; and both companies serve the same industries.”

“The acquisition of Royal confirms our strong ambition to grow our business and extend our service portfolio in key markets such as the US. Bringing Royal and its services under the Hillebrand name and into our network strengthens our position and offering as a one-stop logistics partner,” said Cees van Gent, CEO and Chairman of the Executive Board.

Since 2003, Royal has been a trusted partner of Hillebrand, providing services to its recently rebranded Keg & Assets division formally known as Satellite Logistics Group, Inc. This acquisition has allowed Hillebrand to expand its warehouse facilities and distribution capabilities.

“By joining Hillebrand we now have the means to provide our employees with opportunities to grow in an industry we are all very passionate about serving,” said Sonny Sponaugle, Co-founder of Royal.

Royal Founders Sonny and Janet Sponaugle will remain on board, which will support the transition of the business, its customers, employees and vendors.

Hillebrand was founded in 1844 in Mainz, Germany. The company is the global leading service provider in the forwarding, transport and logistics of wine, spirits, beer and, adjacent to that, other products that require special care. In October 2019, the company completed a major global rebrand, affiliating its companies for an enhanced customer experience in its 175th anniversary year. The firm, formerly JF Hillebrand, relaunched as Hillebrand, unifying previously acquired companies Trans Ocean Bulk Logistics and Satellite Logistics Group (SLG) into one core brand for a stronger identity. The unification enables Hillebrand to present its specialized logistic solutions under one name.

Through its global carrier network Hillebrand manages logistics and transport for any quantity from a single bottle to bulk, from all origins to all destinations, for all modalities. Hillebrand is known for its tailor-made solutions to improve efficiency in its customers’ supply chain, generating revenues of EUR 1.3 Billion with a team of 2,400 professionals located in 90 countries.
